<Lesson Plan with Flight Timetables>

1. Topic : Book a  Flight Ticket!

1. Skill : Reading

2. Level : Pre- Intermediate / Adult

3. Objective :   To let students be able to recognize flight timetable.

4. How to : 

-This activity is for skimming , scanning  activity regarding timetable.

– The first one is a flight timetable of Busan and Cebu.

-The second one is Thai Airways flight timetable between Bangkok and Phuket

-Give learners enough time to look through each table.

-Ask skimming questions for overall contents or general ideas. And then, go into the table deeply and ask scanning questions for specific information.

 

a. Pre-Reading :  Ask students their own experience of buying flight tickets abroad. Share the ideas to get them familiarized with the materials and topic.

b. While-Reading :

1. Give Students skimming questions. Let them have a quick look at the two timetables.

[Skimming Questions]

-What are the two cities presented on  the yellow timetable ?

-What are the two cities presented on the black and white timetable?

– What airline is it with black and white timetable ?

-Which timetable has Daily flight to book?

-Where does the yellow timetable shows the ‘day’?

-Is there any information about ‘day’ on the black and white timetable?

2.Give Students scanning questions. Let them have a thorough look at the two timetables until they get the answers.

[Scanning Questions]

-What day are  the flight 5J179 departing from Busan to Cebu?

-What time does TG 222 depart from Phuket?

– What is the flight number that arrives in Phuket at  1:45p.m?

-What is the flight number that arrives in Busan at 07:20?

c. Post-Reading : 

Give an imaginary situation that the students were going to go to Cebu. Let them role play as a flight ticket agent and customer.

Set a different conditions(2~3)according to the groups and let them role play.

-Teacher shows the video first without any subtitles.

– Let Ss  guess the situation  freely to engage the class.

– Provide a linguistic structure “why did/didn’t you do something?” to students and let students speak out with using the structure.

– Give a task which make a suitable subtitle to students in group work.

– Teacher makes students role play with their own subtitles watching the video.
